The State Theatre of WA is an architectural landmark in the heart of Northbridge, once the site of vast swamp land, now boasts a unique and modern design. The venue is home to 3 resident companies, Black Swan State Theatre Company, Barking Gecko Theatre Company and Co:3 Contemporary Dance Company.
Main features include the breathtaking Bronze Box created using anodised aluminium poles encased in the grand glass entrance and colourful illuminated fly tower. It uses sustainably sourced Tasmanian Blackwood in it’s 575 seat proscenium arch theatre with incredible acoustic design that uses one of the largest digital fly systems in the southern hemisphere was named in honour of the late West Australian actor Heath Ledger. The Courtyard is a beautiful open air theatre space, inspired by The Globe Theatre and specifically designed for Shakespeare during the warmer months, during Fringe it is set up as Rehearsal Room 3, a fabulous chilled bar with live performances from local musicians and Dj’s and host to a weekly event Courtyard Club every Friday afternoon.
