This is an ancillary dwelling (secondary dwelling on an existing lot) but the level of design and finish are far beyond what most people would expect when they think “granny flat”. A generous bedroom and ensuite were built over the existing double garage and an existing detached patio was extended to form living, kitchen and dining spaces. The original backyard dunny was retained in what is now the front courtyard. New framed walls are clad in recycled jarrah except for one wall which is clad in clay tiles recycled from the original garage roof. Access to the dwelling is from the rear lane.
